Google Affiliate - When did it come???

Google may be sticking its toes into Affiliate Programs. They apparently are calling these CPA (Cost Per Action) ads, but what that means is that publishers get paid not for clicks but for some specific action at an advertiser's site: buying something, providing information, whatever. That's an Affiliate Program, Google is just naming it something else.

Interestingly, this comes at the same time that eBay is murmuring about its own affiliate style thingy. What they intend to do is let sites like this run ads pointing at appropriate auctions. For example, we might run ads for auctions related to computer hardware, and would get paid if someone reading here clicked through and won the auction (or purchased a Buy It Now item).

I hope the program becomes as successful as the adsense itself! Amen!

How is the SCJP 1.5 exam different from the SCJP 1.4

* Exam objectives : Several important new language features have been added, including enums, generics, static imports, and autoboxing/unboxing. API features added to the exam include java.lang.StringBuilder, java.util.Locale, java.util.Formater, java.util.Scanner. java.util.regex.Pattern, and java.util.regex.Matcher. Java IO features have been added, including File, BufferedReader, BufferedWriter, FileReader, FileWriter and PrintWriter. Concepts such as loose coupling and high cohesion have been added, as well as greater emphasis on encapsulation as it relates to JavaBean conventions. Bit manipulation (e.g., shifting) has been dropped.

* Number of questions: 72 (increased from 61)
* Time : 175 minutes (increased from 120 minutes)
* Passing score : 59% (increased from 52%)
* Level of difficulty : The concensus is that it is more difficult.
* Format of questions : As before, you will always be told how many options to choose. No credit is given for partial answers.

Preparation
* Familiarize yourself with Sun's exam process, including objectives, registration, testing, etc. See Sun's SCJP page for details.

What are the pre- requisite for SCJP ?

There is no pre-requisite to appear for the exam, other than knowing
Java language concepts and syntax thoroughly.

What are the types of question that come in exam ?

You will find three types of questions on this examination:
* Multiple-Choice Questions with a Single-Correct Answer
* Multiple-Choice Questions with Multiple-Correct Answers
* Fill-In Questions Requiring your Typed Response.

Why there are many versions of exam ?

Java is an evolving language . it was released with some new features , spme bugs and a lot that was not there. so at sun , people work to constantly improve the language , include new features ( as demanded by community) . when there are some major changes , a new sdk is released which supports the new features ( as well as old ones ) . these are named jsdk1.2 , jsdk1.3, jsdk 1.4 ,jsdk1.5 ....( with minor versions also). thats why there are various certifications . the old ones were scjp 1.2 and scjp 1.3. scjp1.4 and scjp1.5 are the exams which reflects these changes with new objectives ,and questions based on these new features.

Which one to go for? scjp 1.4 or 1.5 The answer is simple and easy, go for the latest one. But yes 1.4 has lesser course and if somebody thinks he's not that strong in Java then going for 1.4 is the better option. Do remember you have to get the certificate anyhow; so choose according to your need and choose wisely.

Introduction to SCJP

The Sun Certified Java Programmer' (or SCJP) exam, designated CX-310-055 by Sun, is the entry level Java exam and is a prerequisite to a number of the other Java-related certifications. It is designed to demonstrate that the programmer has met a fairly detailed test of basic knowledge of the essentials of the Java programming language. It tests only for the essentials of the language such as classes, looping constructs and variables, and does not cover specific technologies such as GUI creation, Web or network programming.
The exam is taken at a Prometric test center, and to take the test a candidate must buy a voucher from Sun.

The two most popular versions of SCJP are for java 1.4 & 1.5. The Exam Codes are:

SCJP 1.4 : 310-035, SCJP 1.5 : 310-036

The version of the test based on Java 1.4 is quite popular as it is generally considered easier than the Java 1.5 exam.

One of the main goals of this new exam is to create a test that is "performance based" rather than "knowledge based" (Sun's terms). Generally what this means is that a "knowledge based" question focuses on memorization of details, and a "performance based" question focuses on more real world activities like actually writing code.

The SCJP Java 5 exam tests a candidate on knowledge of declarations, access control, object orientation, assignments, operators, flow control, assertions, string handling, I/O, parsing, formatting, generics, collections, inner classes, threads and the JDK tools.

With each new release of Java, Sun releases a new version of the exam. The current version is aimed at the JDK 1.5 release of Java. The newest version of the exam introduces "drag and drop questions". Thus the JDK 1.5 exam introduces variable arguments, autoboxing, and generic types, and it drops the bit shifting topics from previous exams.
The test is available in English, Japanese, Chinese, German, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

Marcus Green's Mock Exam 1
Marcus Green has composed 3 Mock exams in .html format. The exams are often in Javaranch's Programmer Certification Forum. Marcus frequents such conversations and respects users' comments, and if there is any ambiguity felt by many people , he changes the wording of those questions promptly. So the mock exams are refined by now and considered to be very good and their level of difficulty is close to the real exam. It is good if we get atleast 90 to 95% in all the 3 exams to get a high score in Sun's SCJP2 Exam. Many people said the first time when we take Marcus's sample test, the % we get is close to the % we get from the real Exam. So save them for the last 3 weeks of your real exam and see your % on them.
